Senior Social Worker: Mental Health Facility

Purpose of the Job

To promote, maintain, and develop the psychosocial functioning of residents in the mental health facilities.

Role and Responsibilities

Casework

  • Provide counselling to Lodge/ Square and Independent Living residents
  • Applying statutory interventions as appropriate
  • Conducting hospital visits as appropriate
  • Completing relevant reports and process notes
  • Holding case conferences / family meetings (collaborating with the multidisciplinary team as needed
  • Crisis Management, relevant follow up and monitoring as required

 

Group Work

  • Conducting needs analysis and developing proposals accordingly
  • Facilitate groups
  • Related admin

 

Community Work:

  • Providing relevant activities in collaboration with the programming team
  • Identifying needs for community services and developing appropriate initiatives in terms of these needs / gaps
  • Facilitate community work processes

 

Professional Development, Education and Supervision

  • Sharing of knowledge/ training in order to further the development of volunteers, students, members of the public and staff
  • Supervising, supporting, monitoring and enhancing the professional development of social work staff, social auxiliary workers, students and volunteers. This may require supervision of relevant social services team at other Chev facilities that include mental health and disabilities.
  • Conduct and maintain records of regular supervision sessions
  • Conduct performance appraisals on supervisees

 

Collaboration

  • Facilitating a collaborative and mutually beneficial working relationship with the multidisciplinary team
  • Liaising and arranging meetings with relevant internal divisions (e.g. care, medical, operations etc.) as necessary, including Selwyn Segal Centre
  • Facilitating a collaborative and mutually beneficial working relationship with affiliates and external organizations in the best interest of the community (and to minimize duplication of services)

 

Administration

  • Ensuring compliance to DSD and DOH requirements, including compliance with audits
  • Ensure admin processes and requirements are adhered to in the area including clients, groups, and other projects
  • Ensure all aspects of the POPI Act are complied with
  • Maintaining of statistics
  • Attending and participation in staff meetings and team builders
  • Writing relevant reports as appropriate

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Relevant Social Worker Degree and registrations
  • Minimum 5 – 10 years’ experience
  • Knowledge and skills in the field of mental health/ illness
  • Supervisory experience
